Purpose
Bar Sports League Stamford-Norwalk is really quite simple: we're a bunch of recent college grads that live in Stamford/Norwalk and get together for 5-6 weeks in the winter to play bar sports while we wait for better weather.
The entry fee is $30, and that gets you a cool collectible ('08 was koozies, '09 was pint glasses), as well as a spot in the league, which includes
discounts at Seaside Tavern and the chance to win the coveted BSL Cup as well as the cash prize given to the winner (last year over $300).
History
2008 was the inaugural season of BSL. Thirteen teams battled for a chance in the 4-team playoffs over a 9-game regular season. Three divisions champions and a wildcard met for the two-round playoffs.
Morgan Brown and Becka Duvall were the eventual winners, triumphing over AJ LeGaye and Brad Calkins.
2009 saw a tremendous expansion of the league to 24 teams from 16 companies. One member was even unemployed. The regular season was expanded to 12 games and the playoffs to 10 teams. Five divisions sent their champions directly to the second round of the playoffs,
while the second place teams played each other in play-in games.
Despite all the changes, Morgan and Becka Brown's Brown Sox were again the eventual winners, triumphing over Jay Charles and Drew Bonessa's Keystone State Studs in a dramatic shuffleboard finale.
The 2010 season promises to be even bigger, with Commissioner Brown promising an expansion to 30 teams.
