The playoffs will occur on Thursday, April 2, at the end of the 5-week regular season and will involve 10 teams - the winners and the second place teams of each division. The winner will take home the BSL Cup, as well as a cash prize amount that is still TBD, but most likely in excess of $300. Additionally, a consolation tournament will be hosted the same night for teams that did not make the playoffs, but there will be no prize awarded.
8 teams make the playoffs. All division winners The second place team with the best record, if that is only one team. If more than one team ties for best record, tiebreakers will be applied to determine the best second place team. That team will then be placed into the playoffs. The remaining 4 second place teams will play each other in a randomly determined sport in a one-game play-in. If there are ties for second place teams, tiebreakers within the division will be applied as below. The team with the best record of those plays the worst and the middle two play, so 1 v 4, 2 v 3. Winners continue with matchups against the #1 and #2 ranked division winning teams. The playoff bracket will be determined by placing the top 4 division winners into positions where they won't meet each other until the second round. The other division winner and the 3 second place teams will be placed into positions such that they will not play a team from their own division in the first round. Each round will be a best-of-three series. In the first round, the higher seeded team will choose the opening sport. In subsequent rounds, a coin flip will determine the opening sport.
If two or more teams finish with the same record at the end of the season, the following tiebreakers may be necessary Amongst two teams Head-to-head record Normalized Point Differential. We have to normalize it because Darts would have too strong of an impact on the total point differential Methodology: Calculate the point differential in each of the three sports for each of the teams in question. Calculate the standard deviation of the point differentials in each sport for all teams. Calculate the normalized point differential for each sport for each team: Team APD(Darts) / All TeamsSTDEV(Darts) = Team A normalized Darts Point Differential Add the normalized point differentials in the different sports and compare the sums. Team with the higher score wins the tiebreaker. If a tie cannot be broken by any of the above methods, a one-game tiebreaker will be played in a randomly selected sport Amongst 3 or more teams for 1 or more spots If two or more teams are from the same division and a tie can be broken by using the head-to-head method, it shall be done. If all three teams are from different divisions such that the above tiebreakers do not apply, Normalized Point Differential.
